Working with a Bristol start-up, spun out from the university, we worked with some proprietary silicon in order to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses, and begin to develop applications in the ultra-low powered sensing domain. Prototype sensors were developed that were able to detect shock, temperature extremes, water ingress and light using only single nano-amps of quiescent current. These were paired up with an MCU / RTC combination in order to log events and enable data egress via custom designed RFID antennas. Bespoke enclosures were designed in CAD software and manufactured in-house with SLA techniques in order to produce demonstrators for prospective industrial clients.
