A full programme of analysis was completed on the use for 4G communications for M2M / IoT applications. This programme was centred around determining exactly where and how in the communications system energy is consumed. Power consumption was deconstructed into transmissions on RACH and PUSCH channels for a variety of transmit durations and packet sizes.

Comparisons were performed with popular competitor Sigfox in order to determine suitability for various use cases. Appropriate transmission schemes were drawn up according to the latency / efficiency requirement trade-off.
